Technical Innovations Sees Increased Demand for Advanced Tissue Cutters

Technical Innovations recently announced growth figures for 2005, reflecting a year over year increase of 175% in its precision tissue cutter business segment.  Says Scott Thompson, Manager of Business Development,  “Tissue cutters are the fastest growing segment of TI’s business representing up to 30% of annual company revenue.  TI has been steadily ramping up its ability to meet the increasing demand.”

The company made a strategic decision some years ago to focus 100% of its efforts on the advancement of cutter technology and equipment in the medical device and surgical cutter market.  More recently, the company has expanded manufacturing space and added equipment and personnel specifically for cutter sales and production. Dave Armstrong has been appointed to the newly created position of Cutter Specialist.  With five years of experience as TI’s Production Manager, Armstrong brings a unique perspective to the development and sales of cutters, especially tissue cutters.

When asked for his take on the company’s exceptional growth in the tissue cutter business, Thompson replied, “As medical device OEM’s see higher demand for maturing products, it’s typical that they turn to outsourcing the components and assemblies.  Technical Innovations’ manufacturing process results in an extremely high quality, precise and repeatable cutter, making us a logical supplier in these applications.  Additionally, medical device designers are in a race to develop more advanced, less invasive instruments that will perform procedures previously done through more invasive methods.  Since TI has been focusing on the medical device market for so long,  we’ve been involved in a lot of the R&D for surgical cutters and have assisted in the technology advancement of the industry.”

Technical Innovations’ services include R&D and prototypes, pre-production evaluations and long-term production agreements for the development and manufacturing of circular and shaped tissue cutters for use in medical devices and instruments.  TI provides multiple cutting edge styles with diameters from 0.15mm (0.006”) and lengths to 180cm (70”).

Technical Innovations is a manufacturer of cutters and hole-making systems dedicated to the medical device industry. Products include drills, punches, and production systems for placing holes in catheter tubing and custom tissue cutters for medical/surgical devices.
