Factors Affecting Service Life
Like any cutting tool, TI's drills and punches will become dull after repetitive use. Drilling will generally give longer service life and cleaner holes than punching. Here are some of the factors affecting the durability of these tools:
- Physical characteristics like the tube material, durometer, wall thickness and radiopacifiers
- Drill speed, feed rates or punch impact rates
- Type of beading or internal tubing support used
- Fixturing characteristics and how securely the drill is held in relation to the tubing wall
- Care and handling of the cutting tools
- Methods of inspection and handling
- Size and type of drill used
- Drill tip configuration
Remember that we offer free evaluations of your materials and will recommend the best tools for your hole-making operation.
